History of WKN Windkraft Nord AG in short version:

1990

Formation of WKN Windkraft Nord GmbH, purpose and intention of the company is the development of wind farms. The first projects were realized in cooperation with Vestas Deutschland GmbH.

1993

The begin of operation of the first wind farm in Hedwigenkoog, Northern Germany, at the time the then biggest wind farm in Germany.

1994 - 1997

Another five WKN wind farms are put into operation in Schleswig-Holstein, Northern Germany. Turbines of the 500 and 600 kilowatt class are installed.

1998- 1999

WKN starts the biggest project in its history. In a period of just two years, 10 wind farms with a total of 67 wind turbines are erected. It is also the first time that wind generators in the 1,65 megawatt class (V-66) was placed in service. Soon to be followed by the first 2 megawatt (V-80) wind turbine both manufactured by Vestas. As with smaller turbines in the past, WKN strong relationship with Vestas the new MW class turbines were prototypes.

2000

January 1, 2000, Both, WKN Windkraft Nord and its parent company, BGZ Beteiligungsgesellschaft Zukunftsenergien, decided to change its legal status from a partnership to a corporation.

WKN expands its business activities into foreign countries. The first country is Spain, where a cooperation agreement with a local planer is signed in 2000. In the same year a cooperation in Poland is established.

In September 2000, WKN together with its holding BGZ and their other subsidiaries move into "The House of Future Energies" in Husum. The idea of a competence centre with the utilization of regenerative sources as its core has become reality. The close proximity to the partner companies encourages synergy effects and the daily exchange of experience.

2001

In August WKN takes its as yet largest wind farm into operation. The wind farm Apensen which consists of altogether 21 wind turbines in the 1,65 megawatt class.

Windkraft Nord USA Inc. is founded as a wholly owned subsidiary with its head office located in San Diego, California.

2002

In the beginning of the year, WKN established its own regional office in France.
We started looking for suitable locations and procured the rights of projects within France.

In Italy, WKN enters into a joint venture with a local partner "Aero-Sol".

2003

As a world-wide innovation, WKN erects its first wind farm with a new protection package concept issued by the manufacturer of the wind turbines.

2004

By the end of 2004, WKN Windkraft Nord AG erects its largest wind farm in Nearby Berlin consisting of 31 V-90.

2005

Erection of the first foreign project Francofonte, Sicily (Italy).

2006

WKN sells further German projects to international investors.
The Italian windfarm Francofonte is under construction.
WKN sells its first US-project (windfarm Snyder) to one of the world’s leading power supplier.
WKN and Siemens Project Ventures found Innovative Wind Concepts GmbH (IWC), a joint venture for the development of wind energy projects in Middle and Eastern Europe.
End of the year, WKN sells international projects in Poland, Italy and Spain to an international investor.

2007

WKN hands over the first foreign turn-key project Francofonte to the investor.

Windpark Karstädt (Eastern Germany) has been completed until end of the year.
